Now you can create an atmosphere in every classroom and around your church building for Vacation Bible School by using these traceable scenes and figures. The complete scenes may be used to create murals on your classroom walls and make the lessons come alive. Parts of the scenes and the other figures may be used on bulletin boards, in hallways, anywhere that will draw the students’ attention and excite them about learning in Bible school! There are innumerable ways to use this art. Use your imagination and creativity to enhance every nook and cranny. The blessings for your work will be eternal! (See the Director’s Plan Book for ideas on how to use these transparencies.)
For traditional format, if possible, change the mural in your classroom each day for the individual lessons. If time does not allow, make a unique mural using pieces from the existing scenes and miscellaneous figures that will remain through the entire week. Use other figures to decorate around the classroom.
For rotational format, each classroom should use the scene for its lesson to create a mural. The miscellaneous figures can be used to decorate other parts of the classroom. Since each classroom will be used to teach the same lesson each day, decorations may be more elaborate and more focused toward the aim of each particular lesson.
For both formats, do not forget areas such as hallways and doorways. Enhancing these areas keeps interest high and reinforces the theme. Create an environment that will encourage the students to attend the Sonlight Express Vacation Bible School.
With an overhead projector, project the scenes or figures onto whatever paper you are using: newsprint, table covering paper, craft paper or lightweight cardboard. To create the murals, cover one entire wall in the classroom with paper. To trace individual figures, tack paper to a wall. (Cardboard may be used to create self-standing figures.) Once you have projected the image onto the paper, you can adjust the size of the scene or figure by moving the projector closer to or farther from the paper. When you are satisfied with the size and position, trace the figure(s) with a pencil or marker.
If you are creating a mural, color the scene with crayons, colored pencils, tempera paint, markers or chalk. Markers and tempera paint may be used, but check first to make sure the colors do not bleed through the paper onto the wall. If you traced other figures, remove the paper or poster from the wall, color the figures with crayons, colored pencils, chalk, markers or tempera paint and then place or hang the figures in their location.
